The Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC) has decided to run 500 special buses during Ardh Kumbh to cater to a large number of devotees during the three-month-long mela.
The general manager of UTC, Mr. Deepak Jain said, “As per our preliminary assessment, 500 buses would be needed during the Ardh Kumbh. The exact number would, however, be decided later. We have a meeting with officials on September 21 to discuss all these issues.”
He further stated the maximum inflow of devotees is expected from Delhi-Haridwar, Moradabad-Haridwar and Punjab-Haridwar routes. Deepak Jain said, “We have maximum pilgrims coming from these three routes so most of the buses would be deployed on these routes. Other states are also pitching in with their own buses.”
Around 4000 extra buses were deployed by other states during the Maha Kumbh in the year 2000. He further added, “A similar number is expected during the Ardh Kumbh this time.” As per UTC management, all the resources would be employed to ensure that the targets are met efficiently. An official, on account of anonymity, said that deployment of private buses, if any, would also be discussed during the meeting.
