NGT order for imposing a complete ban on beach camping activities on the Ganga riverbanks between Rishikesh and Kaudiyala may effect the camps which will be there during Kumbh Mela in Haridwar.
The state Department of Urban Development is hoping that the orders do not extend to the camps that will be set up for Ardh Kumbh beginning on January 12 in Haridwar.
“We will approach the NGT about the camping sites for Ardh Kumbh at Haridwar. We are hopeful that the bench will not pass strictures against the camps to be set up for religious bathing. It is a traditional practice,” said DS Garbyal, Secretary, Department of Urban Development.
Another big worry for the government is the Chandi ghat dumping ground the shifting of which has been delayed as the construction of the processing plant at Sarai is yet not complete. In view of Ardh Kumbh, the Department of Urban Development is planning to shift the dumping ground from the Chandi ghat to Sarai but local people are opposing the government move.
