Maha Kumbh Mela is all set to race for the ‘World Heritage’ title. The Ministry of Culture & Tourism has formed a committee which will add five stars to the name of Maha Kumbh Mela by forwarding the fair’s name to the selection committee of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
According to the sources, the centre can nominate the ritual bath at the Kumbh Mela for the world heritage title next year. A team of experts has been formed in order to push India’s entry in the list of ‘World Heritage Club’ and has already submitted a report to the centre regarding this matter.
A high level committee has also been formed to keep a bird’s eye on the history and ceremonies followed in the fair and a report will be prepared on it. For getting its name in the World Heritage list, the country has to prepare a list of its illustrious culture, natural heritage including forest, desert, lake, memorial, palace and city, which will be on priority. Afterwards, the list will be forwarded to a UNESCO committee, which will give the final verdict on the matter.
The Kumbh Mela is so magnificent that even Harvard University along with renowned architects and town planners of international repute had penned down a book citing the impeccable management of the fair, which was launched by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav in August, 2015.
The 449 page book titled Kumbh Mela Mapping the Ephemeral Megacity says, “Maha Kumbh 2013 was far better organised than FIFA World Cup in Brazil and Commonwealth Games in New Delhi”, it further says ,”For a country notorious for its ‘lethargic’ bureaucracy, the success of Maha Kumbh is truly noteworthy.”
