The Nasik Kumbhmela is a celebration that is held once every 12 years in Nashik – it is scheduled for 2015-2016. It lasts for a whole year and draws millions of devotees and tourists from all over the country and the world.

Nashik Kumbh Mela 2015-2016 Special Dates

The dates of the next Kumbhmela of 2015 have now been officially announced by the religious sects namely the Akhil Bharatiya Akhada Parishad or the ABAP. The flag hoisting of the main ceremony would be held on 14 July 2015 at Ram Kunda and the flag hoisting of the Akhara would be on 19 Aug 2015 at Sadhugram.

The Kumbh Mela in Nasik

Trimbakeshwar is a holy town that houses one of the twelve Jyotirlingas in India. It also is the origin of the river Godavari and is situated 38 kms away from Nasik. The Sinhasta Kumbh Mela is held once in 12 years in Nashik and Trimbakeshwar.

According to historical records, Nasik is one of four places where the elixir of immortality, the 'amrit', fell to earth from a pitcher as gods and demons were engaged in the tussle to gain the ownership of the jar full of 'amrit'. The Kumbh Mela rotates among the four holy sites every three years.

The Kumbh Mela is marked by millions of devotees' plunge into the river Godavari that is believed would cleanse their souls leading to salvation. A ritual bath at a predetermined time and place is the major event of the festival. The annual festival of Shivratri is also celebrated with great pomp and show inviting thousands of pilgrims.

Climate in Nasik

The city of Nashik enjoys a pleasant climatic condition throughout the year except from March to mid-June when the city goes through temperature fluctuations. The city has tropical climate having dryness.

Summers in Nasik: (March to May) are hot with maximum temperature reaches above 42°C; generally tourists avoid visiting Nasik during the summers, especially April and May.

Monsoons in Nashik: (June to September) offer medium rainfalls giving reprieve of the hot climate; it is good for city visit.

Winters in Nashik: (December to February) are mostly pleasant with a maximum and minimum temperature of 32°C and 8°C, the best period for sight seeing.
